The George N. Parks Drum Major Academy, multiple locations

(MA, NJ, OH, OK, CO, NC). Our curriculum focuses on conducting, peer leadership, and showmanship. Instructors are all current and former college and DCI drum majors in addition to being music educators. California

Band at the Beach Music Camp, San Diego, is entering its 34th year, serving band students in grades 7-12. Camp Dates: July 8-12. Location: Dana Middle School, 1775 Chatsworth Boulevard, San Diego, CA 92107. Hours: 10:00 to 2:30. All sections will have their own coaches and some fine guest conductors will be on board. Lunch and t-shirt are included in the $350 tuition. The week will end with a free concert for the public at Dana’s auditorium. Hidden Valley’s master classes are immersive, learning intensives for advanced players. Alexander Technique PLUS, Boulder

For 29 years we have offered somatic study to the musical community, an experience that includes significant aspects of the Alexander Technique, Body Mapping, movement, mindfulness, and psychology, all in the service of inclusive well-being. All ages are welcome. Our team: Amy Likar (DMA in flute, Director of Training for the Association for Body Mapping Education), James Brody (Director of the Musicians’ Wellness Program at the CU College of Music) and Matthew Tomatz (embedded psychotherapist to the College of Music). Amy and Jim provide effective strategies for efficient movement and thinking. Using an integrative approach, Matt will present daily sessions that will deepen the program through mindfulness, yoga, breath practices, and performance psychology. We encourage Master of Music Education students to join us for guidance on how to bring these powerful tools into your classrooms. Held at University of Denver, this is America’s premier brass workshop. (Recommended for high school juniors and older.) Faculty include many of the most famous names in the business. Jacksonville University Chamber Music Intensive, Jacksonville. On the riverfront campus of Jacksonville University, a week of immersive musical study with our distinguished faculty including chamber music, masterclasses, performances, private lessons, and All-State audition preparation. Bienen School of Music Summer Session Workshops, Evanston. Taught by prestigious Bienen School faculty and a host of renowned guest artists, these intensive experiences are designed to challenge musicians to achieve the next level in their career. Participants have the opportunity to network with musicians from around the world while visiting Chicago, one of the world’s greatest musical cities. UNI Jazz Combo Camp, Cedar Falls

This will be a week-long exploration of jazz music for high school students, including performances, workshops, jam sessions, masterclasses and more, offering a curriculum that covers jazz style, improvisation, theory, ear training, and performance through daily combo rehearsals and two concerts. The camp is intended for high school students, those going into 10th grade and above, and instructors. Tuition with house $600 (includes an air-conditioned dorm room, breakfast, lunch and dinner). WTAMU Band & Orchestra Camp, Canyon

The WTAMU Band Camp has been held annually for over 70 years on the campus of West Texas A&M University in Canyon, located in the Texas panhandle just south of Amarillo. This year, we are including string students in order to also have an orchestra experience. Students who have completed at least one year of full band or orchestra may attend (entering 7th grade – incoming college freshman). The campers make up 9 full bands, 4 for junior high and 5 for high school, in addition to a full orchestra and string orchestra. The camp faculty consists of members of the excellent WTAMU music faculty along with leading high school and junior high band directors from Texas, New Mexico, and Oklahoma. A camper’s daily schedule includes full band or orchestra rehearsals, sectionals, individual instrument classes, and a required afternoon class and assembly, as well as optional electives at 4:30pm. In addition, many activities are offered in the evening hours. Campers staying on campus are housed in university dorms; WT students serve as resident assistants. Each dorm also has a live-in adult dorm supervisor. Roommate assignments are made based on requests received from the online registration system. In the event that no specific roommate is requested, one is assigned by our staff and, whenever possible, campers are kept together with other students from their hometowns. 7/7-13.
