California
10th San Francisco Flute Society, San Francisco. Flutes by the Sea Masterclass and Competitions to be held in the historic oceanside town of Half Moon Bay, June 14-17. Join us for 4 intensive days of masterclasses, flute choirs, ensembles, exhibits, and recitals. Apply early as rates go up April 1. Student housing is available at the oceanfront Montara Lighthouse Youth Hostel.
   Our featured Guest Artist this year will be Jasmine Choi, International Soloist, former Principal Flute of the Vienna Symphony, former Associate Principal of the Cincinnati Symphony, SONY Classical Recording Artist, 2018 Winter Olympics’ Featured Artist. Our pianist will be Dmitriy Cogan.
   Additionally, we will be holding a VIRTUAL Competition with cash prizes and an opportunity to perform during the masterclass. Competitive students are encouraged to submit two contrasting video links by April 1.

Florida
UCF Flute Boot Camp, Orlando. Flute Boot Camp is a three-day intensive program designed to educate and inspire young flutists from 7th grade to 12th grade. Daily masterclasses and preparation for State Allstate and Solo Ensemble. In addition to the daily curriculum, we will have a flute ensemble, yoga and zumba as daily exercise. 6/23-6/25. UCF Summer Flute and Piccolo Institute, Orlando. The University of Central Florida Flute and Piccolo Institute is a 5 day experience of music making open for students in grades 7-12. Flute and piccolo Workshop features masterclasses with Dr. Nora Lee Garcia. All participants will be part of a large Flute Orchestra culminating with a final showcase concert. 6/26-6/30. 23rd Annual Summer Flute Retreat, Peru. 23rd Annual Summer Flute Retreat, all levels, adults welcome. 19th Annual Summer Metropolitan Flute Festival Orchestra, Groton. Unique ensemble performance opportunity for university, advanced amateur and professional flutists concluding with gala concert in Groton Hill Music Center’s world class Concert Hall (near Boston). The Ohio State University Flute Workshop, Columbus. Flute Workshop features master classes with Professor Katherine Borst Jones, technique classes, private lessons, solo night, faculty and counselor recitals, flute choir and twice daily coached small flute ensembles. Flute Padding Techniques, Wampum. Students learn how to install and level pads by applying the same techniques used by the Boston flute makers, installing felt pads, regulating and adjusting connections, replacing corks and felts. Bring your own Project Flute (no Chinese please). Tuition includes important tools and manuals. Maximum 4 students per class. 2/6-2/10, 4/3-4/7, 6/5-6/9, 7/3-7/7, 8/7-8/11. Flute! Repertoire and Performance Masterclass is a performance class for advanced performers, and these sessions emphasize musical performance and preparation. Daily classes include warmup exercises, tone/technique development, articulation studies, interaction of performer and listener, and the master class concludes with a concert by members of the class. 6/9-6/11. Flute! Fundamentals is a workshop for educators interested in developing teaching skills. Participants observe master teaching and interact with artist Mary Karen Clardy coaching students of all levels. Basics of embouchure, breathing, tone production, phrasing, vibrato, and technique are addressed, with practical solutions for common problems given throughout the class.
