2014 Aeolus International Competition for Wind Instruments: Flute, Horn, Clarinet will be held in Dusseldorf, Federal Republic of Germany September 9-14, 2014 for flutists born after January 1, 1986. Prizes: €10,000, €7,000, €6,000. Repertoire: 1st Round: Berio Sequenza, Roussel Joueurs de Flute (Pan, Tityre). 2nd Round: Solo written after 1980, WF Bach Sonata in E Minor, Jolivet Concerto. 3rd Round: Debussy L’aprés-midi d’un faune for flute and piano, Prokofiev Sonata. 4th Round: Mozart Concerto in D, K. 314. Deadline: April 30, 2014.

Bowdoin Festival Announces 2014 Composition Competition
The Bowdoin International Music Festival is pleased to announce its seventh annual student composition competition for works written for a solo stringed instrument. The competition is open to all student composers based in the United States of America who are under the age of 35. A prize of $500.00 will be awarded to the winning composer, and the selected work will be premiered at the Bowdoin International Music Festival’s 2013 Gamper Festival of Contemporary Music, July 31-August 3, 2014.

The Sewanee Summer Music Festival Announces 2014 King Beetle Composition Competition
The SSMF is pleased to announce the 2014 King Beetle Composition Competition for a work immortalizing some aspect of King Beetle’s life. The work should be scored for flute, bassoon, and harp. The competition is open to composers of all ages. Prizes: $300 and a performance on the SSMF Chamber Music Series performed by Patricia George, flute; Hunter Thomas, Bassoon; and Marian Shaffer, harp. Send score, parts, and a high quality recording to SSMF, 735 University Avenue, Sewanee, TN 37383 by April 15, 2014.
